Etsy
Buyer Check.

Avoid problem buyers by seeing how they've treated other sellers. Search any Etsy buyer's username or profile URL for community-sourced reviews and rating history.

How it works

Look up a buyer before you ship their order.

Paste an Etsy buyer's username or profile link. Buyer Check puts two kinds of reviews side by side, with an average rating and a star breakdown, so you can see what this person tends to be like as a customer.

Etsy reviews

Reviews the buyer has written

The public reviews this buyer has left for other Etsy shops. Someone who leaves fair four- and five-star reviews is a very different customer from someone with a run of one-star complaints.

RankHero reviews

Reviews from sellers who sold to them

Ratings from RankHero sellers who have already had an order from this buyer, from 1 to 5 stars with an optional comment. It's the seller's side of the story, which Etsy doesn't show you.

When to check

Worth a look before you commit.

A big custom order

Personalized and made-to-order work can't be resold if the order goes wrong. Check the buyer before you buy materials and start making.

A partial refund request

See whether this buyer has had the same complaint with other shops before you decide how to reply.

A review threat

Read how they've reviewed other shops so you can respond calmly, keep a record of the order and involve Etsy support if you need to.

Step by step

How to check an Etsy buyer.

  1. 1

    Open the order on Etsy

Click the buyer's name on the order to open their profile. Copy the link, or just the username that comes after /people/.

  2. 2

    Search for the buyer

Paste it into the search bar at the top of this page. You'll see their average rating, a star breakdown split by source and every review we found, which you can filter to positive, neutral or negative.

  3. 3

Review them when the order's done

Rate the buyer from 1 to 5 stars and add a comment if you like. It takes a few seconds and helps the next seller who looks them up.

What other sellers see when you review

  • Your star rating and comment
  • Never your name, email or shop
  • The buyer isn't notified when you look them up or review them

FAQ

Questions about checking Etsy buyers.

Can't find your answer? Get in touch.

Is Buyer Check free?

Yes. You can check buyers without an account, up to a daily limit.

Will the buyer know I checked them?

No. Buyers aren't notified when you search for them or leave a review, and your review is shown under an anonymous “RankHero User” label with a number.

How does RankHero still have buyer reviews from Etsy?

Buyer Check shows the public reviews a buyer has left on Etsy, collected over time, alongside the reviews RankHero sellers have written about them. Very recent Etsy reviews can take a little while to show up.

Why does a buyer have no reviews?

Plenty of buyers never leave public reviews, and no RankHero seller may have rated them yet. No reviews isn't a bad sign on its own. If you've sold to them, you can be the first to review them.

How do I leave a review for a buyer?

Search for the buyer, then click Write a review. Choose a rating from 1 to 5 stars and add a comment if you want. You can review the same buyer once every 30 days, and there's a daily limit on reviews.

What should I do if a buyer has negative reviews?

A few negatives don't automatically mean you should cancel, so read them carefully. Often the right move is adding tracking, insurance or photos of the item before it ships. For very concerning histories, you can choose to cancel and refund.

Can I cancel an order based on Buyer Check results?

You can, but treat it as one signal among many. Etsy lets sellers cancel orders, but frequent cancellations can hurt your shop, so note your reasons and follow Etsy's cancellation policy.

What is a good Karen Check alternative?

Buyer Check does the job Karen Check used to do: screening a buyer before you fulfill an order. In one search you see the buyer's own Etsy review history alongside reviews from other sellers.

Why did Karen Check stop working?

Karen Check relied on buyer feedback data that Etsy's older API made available. When Etsy retired that API, the data was no longer available in the same way and the tool stopped working.
